Collage - Harry Potter theme

Apr 7th, 2008 | By Aisling Dart | Category: Mixed media

At left is a photo a large mixed media collage on canvas board. All of the collage elements relate to the early Harry Potter novels.
The background was painted black with Maimeri’s “Brera” acrylic paint. Then, I added the paper collage elements, using Golden gel medium as an adhesive (Liquitex will work well, too).
The [...]

Altered Ouija board - torn paper

Apr 7th, 2008 | By Aisling Dart | Category: Mixed media

At left, I’ve covered most of a traditional Ouija board with torn paper embellishments. I selected individual letters, plus useful and whimsical phrases, to use in divination.
The biggest letters generally came from the oversized fashion magazine, W. The phrases came from a variety of sources, but largely fashion and travel magazines.
(In-flight magazines often [...]

Homage to Dr. John
mixed media collage by Aisling D’Art

Dr. John is probably my favorite musician, since I first heard his [...]

How to create a Batragon - or any other mixed-images creature…
For this image–created for the Bestiary Deck exchange–I used the Dover book, “Old-Fashioned Animal Cuts” (out-of-print in 2007) and Adobe Photoshop.
I knew that I wanted a beast that would mix elements of a bat and a dragon. I was also inspired by [...]

Oct 17th, 2002 | By Aisling Dart | Category: Mixed media

Many of us are always looking for new, better, and innovative ways to include images in our art.
After Artfest 2002, there was a lot of buzz about using gin as the alcohol of choice, for image transfers to polymer clay. (The subject came up during one of my classes, when I objected [...]

The Bugpin and how to make one

Mar 21st, 2002 | By Aisling Dart | Category: Mixed media

This started as a plastic bug that I purchased at a rubber stamp store. Since the July/Aug 2000 issue of Somerset Studio, where embellished plastic lizards were made into brooches (on page 12)… well, these critters have been popular. However, when I tried wrapping a painted plastic bug with [...]
